From village to the world stage

By Karma Sherpa | Executive director and Co-founder

Dear Small World Community Namaste !

We are thrilled to bring you an incredible piece of news that our co-founder, Sanam Sherpa, on June 21 2023 had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet Mr. President Obama in Athens! Not only did she meet him, but she also had the privilege of attending a three-day conference organized by the Obama Foundation alongside him.

This meeting with President Obama has given our organization a tremendous boost in visibility and appreciation for the work we have been doing on the ground. It is a testament to the trust, dedication and commitment of each and every one of you, our extended TSW community. We couldn't have reached this milestone without your unwavering support and effort.

As we move forward, we do so with a renewed sense of responsibility towards the girls and the community we serve. This recognition encourages us to continue striving for even greater heights and making a lasting impact on the lives of those we support.

We wanted to take a moment to share this incredible achievement with all of you because, truly, it is a success that belongs to each and every member of our TSW community. Your hard work, passion, and belief in our mission have made this possible, and we cannot thank you enough.

In the years to come, we will continue to push boundaries, and work tirelessly towards creating a better future for our girls and our community. We are confident that with your continued support and dedication, we will achieve even greater milestones and make an even bigger difference in the lives of those we serve.

Once again, thank you for being a part of our Small World community and for your unwavering commitment. Together, we are making a lasting impact and creating a brighter future with gratitude.

A few words from Ms Sherpa

Last month was a complete whirlwind of emotions and such an adrenaline boost. I still can not find the right words to put my experience into words.

It was a surreal moment when I had the opportunity to meet President Barack Obama representing Nepal. As I stood in his presence, I felt a mixture of emotions - excitement, nervousness, and awe.

The occasion was a gathering of diverse leaders from around the world, all committed to causes close to our hearts. We were a group of individuals, each with our unique backgrounds and experiences, but all driven by a shared desire to make a positive difference in the world. The energy in the room was palpable, a supportive and empowering environment where ideas were exchanged and dreams were shared beyond borders.

Listening to President Obama speak was a rollercoaster of emotions. It was humbling to hear him acknowledge the work we were doing and express his belief in our ability to carry the torch forward. His words resonated deeply within me, igniting a fire of determination and motivation. Here was a man who had led one of the most powerful nations in the world, yet he saw potential in each of us to create change.

During our time together, I had the privilege of learning more about President Obama's values and what drives him to continue inspiring leaders. His passion for equality, justice, and empowering the next generation was evident in every word he spoke. It was through his example that I realized the importance of staying true to one's values and using our influence to uplift others.

As the event came to an end, I returned home stronger and more motivated than ever. The experience reaffirmed my commitment to contribute to creating a world that our girls deserve. I was reminded that no matter how big or small our actions may seem, they have the power to shape the future.

Meeting President Obama had a profound impact on me. It reminded me of the importance of surrounding myself with like-minded individuals who share my passion and vision. It taught me that even in the presence of great leaders, we all have a role to play in making a difference. It grounded me in my purpose and gave me the strength to overcome any obstacles that may come my way.

The experience of meeting a president is not just about the encounter itself, but about the inspiration it brings and the ripple effect it has on our lives. It serves as a reminder that we are all part of a larger movement, working towards a better world for generations to come. And with this newfound sense of purpose, I am driven to continue making a positive impact, fueled by the belief that change is possible and that together, we can create a brighter future.

For all the girls in Nepal "I belong to where you all, i was once voiceless and given up on by many but amid all the odds I made my way through to sit on one of the most powerful tables with the most powerful leader of our time, President Obama. Believe in yourself even if the world doesn't, your self-belief will empower you to claim a seat at powerful tables and turn dreams into reality, proving that the possibilities are endless when you dare to dream without boundaries."

with thanks

Sanam Sherpa
