Educating girls for lasting change

Girls Education Program.

We are thrilled to share our actions on Girls Education here at ground. We have reached to over 160 girls in remote himalayan region through our girls education program so that they can continue to be in school. The sad reality of these remote himalayan region of Nepal is that there are limited or no access to higher education, college and universities. But only primary level education is not enough for anyone to qualify for a job. So we are providing these deserving girls a safe and free accommodation along with scholarship for their college education at district headquarters of Solukhumbhu where the facilities of higher education and university is available.

All the girls belongs to underprivileged families and have no other means to continue their study without our support. This program is one of its kind in the entire region. Beside complex geography reasons like poor economic conditions and various tradition and culture are barriers for the girls are not to allow to continue their education after basic schooling. 7 out of 10 girls drops out permanently after grade 10 education and then she joins her mother to work in farm, look after cattle and soon be married at age 18 or so. With the initiation of this project and intervention of free education with free and safe accommodation we strive to provide them with opportunities and hope for their future.

Binita age 19 says “ in my community girls are always prepared for getting married and looking after her husband and inlaws, and i was in similar circumstances until The Small World supported for my college education. For me life is now beautiful and i hope i can be a first female teacher in my community and will marry only when i am ready. Thank you for the support.”

The stories continue to grow and as we educate these young generation of girls today we strongly believe that they will take on the responsibility to make sure their children are educated.
