Girls Glory - Improve Menstrual Health in India

Hi, 

Thank you to all for supporting us in this campaign. It's been a great three months for Reaching Hand. Thanks to your generosity. Our main focus this year has been to build toilets for girls as a part of our project for all the schools adopted by us.We are happy to say the project is going quiet well.

Projects undertaken

As of now with the funds raised we have completed building toilet for the Varanasi School and we have started building two toilets at the Ramamurty Nagar School.The Varanasi School didnt have a toilet which was a very sad condition and the Ramamurty Nagar School had a toilet but in a very unhygeinic condition. So we decided to demolish and reconstruct it and also build a new one as the number of students have increased over the years and the present toilet cannot be used by many students.  

Vending machines of Sanitary Napkins

This is a new idea that we are planning to giving wings to soon about attaching Sanitary Pads Vending Machine with a smart card for each child. Each girl will be allotted 16 sanitary pads every month which can be availed through swiping of the smart cards.This will prevent misuse of funds and pads and prevent corruption and it will also be easier to monitor the impact of the project. 

Color Splashes

As a part of this project, we painted classrooms and verandah of more than 20 Schools along with the help of volunteers from the corporates. It was overwhelming to see the joy on the faces of the students on seeing their newly painted classrooms.

Education on Health and Hygiene

We did two programs educating the children, teachers and parents about health and hygeine. Some of the topics covered were- How to take care of their health, Importance of washing hands, How to use sanitary napkins and methods of disposal,etc. Recently on March 6th we celebrated Women's day with more than 100 women which included teachers,parents and students and conducted a Health and Hygiene workshop along with other women empowerment topics.

Upcoming Projects

In the coming three months we are planning to construct toilets in 15 schools for which the design has already been drawn by the Architect and we'll be holding more Health and Hygiene workshops in all these schools. As of now, we are on the look out for many more workers for constructing the toilets to speeden the construction and daily wage workers for the maintenance of the toilets. We are also planning to Run for this project in the coming up Tata Consultancy Services marathon on May17.It is going to be a huge international event.
