Graduations Galore

Dear Friends,

We hope you are having a wonderful start to the new year!

Before delving into our exciting update, we wanted to take a moment to thank you for helping us to make our #GivingTuesday campaign a smashing success! Because of you, we raised over $5000 in one day and we are well on our way to reaching our goal of $25,000 to educate, empower and engage 25 teen girls this year. That's AMAZING! We are so grateful to count on your support.

As 2016 came to a close, 12 promising young women supported by OYE's Scholarship Program graduated from high school, from a 18-month diploma program, and from college.

One such girl is Allison. When she was awarded an OYE scholarship in 2013, her family was going through tough financial times. Beyond providing the opportunity to continue her education, OYE changed the way she views herself and the world around her. "I have learned so much about what I am capable of achieving when I set my mind to it. I am a more just person and I have come to understand my rights and what it means to be a feminist. I am a completely different person now than when I entered OYE four years ago." On the last day of November, Allison graduated from high school at the top of her class. This past Monday, she started classes at the University of San Pedro Sula (USAP), where she was awarded a full scholarship alongside two of her peers at OYE. She will be studying architecture there. Beyond graduating from college, she dreams of studying and traveling abroad, supporting her family, and helping other young people in the same way that OYE has helped her. Click HERE to watch Allison on her special day.

Allison is just one of the nearly 200 young women whose pathway to success has been paved by the life-changing opportunities provided by OYE, together with personal drive and determination and the support of family. These incredible opportunities are made possible because of you.

We are so honored to count on your support, but beyond your dollars, we need your voice! Please consider sharing our message with your friends, coworkers and family and inviting them to support OYE to empower girls through access to education and safe spaces to learn and lead.

When girls succeed, the world succeeds.

In appreciation,
Amanda
