The Young Women's Political Leadership Course (YWPLC) is designed to equip young women with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to engage in politics and leadership actively.
On September 30 and October 1, the YWPLC Fellows participated in one-on-one feedback sessions to reflect on their experiences at the Politics Institute. These sessions provided a platform for Fellows to share insights on their learning journey, discuss challenges, and identify areas for improvement. Key takeaways from these discussions included the importance of grassroots political engagement, strategies for effective policymaking, and leadership development within Nepal's political landscape.
Following the feedback sessions on October 4 and 7, the YWPLC facilitated a mentor-mentee pairing process. This initiative connected Fellows with experienced political leaders and professionals who provided guidance, shared experiences and supported their leadership growth. The mentorship aimed to enhance the Fellows' understanding of political dynamics and encourage their active participation in governance and advocacy.
On November 17, the first batch of YWPLC internships commenced. Four fellows joined the Bibeksheel Sajha Party, and two interned under Rajani Thapa, a prominent female leader in Nepal. This hands-on experience allowed Fellows to gain practical exposure to party operations, policy development, and political campaigning.
From December onwards, additional Fellows secured internships in various institutions, including:
These placements enabled Fellows to immerse themselves in governance, media, and social development, further strengthening their leadership and political competencies.
From January 5th to 11th, 2025, 19 Fellows of the Young Women’s Political Leadership Course (YWPLC) embarked on a field visit to Madesh Province, gaining firsthand insights into the structure and functioning of local government. This immersive experience provided young women (aged 18 to 25) with opportunities to engage with local leaders, politicians, and government officials to understand their roles and responsibilities in governance, particularly the role of women in political leadership. Through interactive sessions, workshops, and community engagement activities, participants applied what they had learned from the Politics Institute (PI) while exploring the diversity of local communities and governance structures. The visit also served as a platform for cultural exchange, fostering mutual understanding and respect between the Fellows and the local community.
Later, after returning from the field trip, the Fellows participated in a briefing follow-up session. During the session, they reflected on their observations, shared key learnings, and discussed strategies for implementing their insights into their leadership journey.
From January 27 to 30, the Fellows participated in Advocacy Week, where they learned the fundamentals of advocacy and how to design effective advocacy projects. This intensive learning experience equipped them with the skills to create impactful initiatives and drive social change.
The past few months have been instrumental in shaping the leadership journey of the YWPLC Fellows. Through structured learning, mentorship, hands-on internships, field experiences, and advocacy training, the program has successfully provided young women with the tools necessary to navigate Nepal's political landscape. These initiatives mark significant steps toward fostering a new generation of women leaders who are well-equipped to drive change and contribute to inclusive governance in Nepal.
Stay tuned to hear more from our 2024/25 YWPLC Fellows!
