The 250 Teachers for Afghanistan campaign, brings together teachers in Afghanistan's under-resourced girls' public schools, and trains them to be the change-makers for the next generation of girls. An estimated 73% of Afghanistan's teachers do not have adequate training and qualifications according to the Ministry of Education and this project aims to change that across 15 schools in 3 provinces.
Since October 2015, when the campaign was launched, the Womanity program has overseen the training of 60 teachers in how to best teach Information Communication Technologies (ICT) to students. ICT is a crucial subject for Afghanistan's youth, especially girls, as it provides young graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to find modern and meaningful employment after school graduation.
The teacher training sessions have been organized by independent professional trainers and prior to each training, a baseline survey was taken to understand the capacity of the teachers. Once the teachers complete their training, a further test will be taken to monitor the progress each teacher has made in becoming a better equipped professional. The 15 schools in which Womanity works are in Kabul, Panjshir and Kapisa provinces.
The training uses an interactive methodology to teach ICT, and aims to give teachers basic knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office.
With your support Womanity is able to make a considerable sea-change not just in the learning of girls in Afghanistan, but in improving the livelihood of (often women) teachers. For us this is a win-win.
