Poor Eyesight Hinders People with Albinism

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Thank you for supporting the Give 500 Eyeglasses to Rural People with Albinism project. We sincerely appreciate your generosity and concern for a group that faces daily challenges due to poor vision and limited access to eye care services.

Many people living with albinism experience low vision and sensitivity to light from an early age. In rural communities, access to eye examinations and prescription glasses is often unavailable or unaffordable. As a result, many children struggle to see classroom boards, while adults face difficulties working, reading, traveling, and carrying out everyday activities.

We are grateful for the donations received so far. However, the funds currently available are not enough to begin implementation of the project. Additional support is needed before vision screening activities, eyeglass production, transportation, and community outreach can commence.

This project aims to provide professional vision assessments and prescription eyeglasses to 500 rural people with albinism. Outreach teams will travel to underserved communities where beneficiaries can receive eye examinations and properly fitted glasses designed to meet their individual needs. Protective cases and basic guidance on eyeglass care will also be provided.

For many beneficiaries, a pair of prescription glasses can make a life-changing difference. Better vision can improve classroom participation, reading ability, workplace productivity, mobility, and independence. Access to proper vision support can also help reduce some of the barriers that people with albinism face in education and employment.

We remain committed to carrying out this project and continue working toward the resources needed to launch the first phase. As progress is made, we look forward to sharing updates, photographs, and stories from beneficiaries whose lives will be improved through better vision.

Thank you for helping improve access to eye care for rural people with albinism.

Warm regards,

Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
