In Nigeria, one in four girls becomes a mother before age 19, and most are forced to leave school. This project will support 500 teenage mothers with school re-entry, childcare support, uniforms, books, and tuition. Without intervention, many remain trapped in cycles of poverty. By removing barriers to education, we give them a chance to continue learning and secure a better future for themselves and their children. The need is urgent, as thousands of young mothers are excluded from classrooms.
In Nigeria, teenage pregnancy is a leading cause of school dropout among girls. Most schools do not accommodate young mothers, and poverty prevents families from affording childcare and school fees. As a result, many teenage mothers are excluded from education, limiting their future opportunities and leaving them dependent on low-income, unstable jobs. Without intervention, both the mothers and their children face repeated cycles of disadvantage.
This project will remove barriers preventing teen moms from continuing school. It will provide tuition, books, uniforms, and childcare so they can return to classrooms. By supporting 500 young mothers, the program creates a realistic path for them to complete secondary education. With childcare provided, mothers can focus on learning without being forced to choose between caring for their children and attending school.
Educated teen mothers are more likely to secure better-paying jobs, reduce poverty within their families, and raise healthier children. Completing secondary school increases their lifetime earnings and opens access to vocational or higher education. Their children benefit from mothers who value and can afford education. This project, therefore, not only changes the future of 500 mothers but also breaks the cycle of disadvantage for the next generation.
