You have impacted a young lady's life for good.

I want to tell you the story of a young lady I met during my recent trip to India. A life you helped change through your generosity. In rural India, many girls are married young; before they have finished school, without a dream of college and long before gaining any job experience. They are expected to cook and clean and care for the farm animals. The problem is; that with the advancements in society, these roles are no longer fitting, yet girls are still having marriages arranged at a young age. They are married young, then stuck without any opportunities. Gowri was a young lady in this situation.

Gowri was married before graduating high school and was forced to drop out. Her husband was also young and not earning enough to support the family. She needed to find a job to help but had neither the skills nor the education to do so.

Gowri heard about our tailoring school from her friend in a neighboring village. She was admitted and soon discovered she had a natural affinity for design and stitching. She worked very hard and developed her skills well.

When Gowri successfully finished her training, she received a sewing machine and was able to start a small business. Her skills were on display as the women in her village wore the clothes she tailored. Soon she was constantly busy. The dress you see in the photo took her about four hours, but the quality was so good she was able to charge two days wages.

Her young husband is very proud of her.

There are 60 women currently enrolled in the tailoring schools. They will spend six months learning how to sew and stitch.

Gowri’s success and the success of the other women is possible because of you. Your gift made a difference and brought change to people suffering from poverty.  Take this opportunity to impact another life for good; your gifts to Empower Women will bring real change.

Sincerely,

John Sparks
