We give out teddy bears year old, and this Christmas, we decided to personally hand some out to orphans.
Cheryl, just 3, lays in a cot half asleep. She doesn't know what Christmas is. Although she is Christian, she is one of the handicapable children at Darul Sakoon orphanage who has been forsaken by her parents. The orphanage and its sister boys orphange have 180 Christian, Hindu and Muslim orphans, most of whom are handicapable.
We created a mini project in order to distribute teddy bears, chocolates and even Karachi's iconic hot cross buns on Christmas day. Our original target of 100 orphans was so quickly met that we expanded our goal to giving every single of these 180 orphans. We've raised enough for 164 so far and are just $200 short of our goal for all children.
As the volunteers at the orphanage teach us to open the chocolate wrappers before offering to the children and show us how the jumbo hot cross buns need to be broken into little pieces and fed to some of the smaller, we see Cheryl smile at the gifts.
"Me?" she asks, more a statement than a quickly.
"Yes, for you," we reply. "All of this is for you."
Here are some pictures from our visit with these lovely children.
If you are able to help us complete our drive for these darling kids, please do contribute this holiday. And, of course, spread the word.
There are so many more kids who need year round, we always appreciate your support.
