Dear Donor,
Despite the fact that Venezuela has officially overcome the prolonged cycle of hyperinflation that led more than 90% of its population to conditions of poverty (ENCOVI 2021), the high cost of living continues to be the main problem for citizens.
The most current data reported by independent entities, report for the month of May 2022, inflation of 151% year-on-year (Venezuelan Finance Observatory). In contrast to this, the salary of public employees is 30 dollars a month, while in the private sector the figure barely reaches 101 dollars of average monthly income.
In this context, there are many basic needs that the population cannot cover satisfactorily, where problems such as overcrowding, animal abuse, and veterinary care are not among the most urgent priorities to be addressed by families and the most vulnerable sectors. impoverished population.
The abandonment cycle has become more critical and despite the effort, we have made (including the training of new veterinarians in the simplified sterilization technique and campaign rhythm) it has not been enough to stop the overpopulation of animals.
We have had to cancel low-cost sterilization days since in the communities where we work, people have not been able to afford the minimum amount of collaboration that is requested of them in the subsidized Sterilization Program (around 12 to 20 USD).
The problem grows and is accentuated in the interior of the country and the expectations of gratuity are greater, it becomes a necessity.
Hence A Week Against Animal Abandonment (AWAAA) has become a vital proposal, which we must maintain and ideally implement once a month.
To avoid the mistreatment and suffering of more animals that are born in such unfavorable contexts, the areas chosen are the most critical of sectors D and E (poor classes and extreme poverty). Communities both in Caracas and in Cumaná and Maracaibo.
We work every day together with our donors and collaborators to turn this situation over.
We will prevail...
Thank you for being part of our community!
Warm regards
