Empowering Futures, Celebrating Journeys - Rafiki Girls Centre October 2025 Update

By Andrew Jackson | Operations Manager

Earlier this year, we proudly welcomed two Intakes – eighty bright, determined young women ready to begin their journey at Rafiki Girls Centre. During orientation, we promised them that over the coming months they would not only gain new skills, but also confidence, sisterhood, and a renewed belief in themselves.

What better way to inspire hope than through the voices of those who have already walked the same path?

In August, Rafiki hosted its first-ever Alumni Reunion, a heartfelt celebration bringing together former and current students to share their experiences and success stories. Many alumni, now thriving as entrepreneurs, teachers, nurse aides, and designers, returned to give back, offering mentorship, advice, and encouragement to the newest cohort. Their stories of transformation filled the hall with pride and possibility.

“Coming back here reminds me how far I’ve come, and how much more is possible.”

The event was led by Patricia, a former beneficiary who now runs her own event décor business and serves as Rafiki’s Decorations Trainer. She spoke about resilience, self-belief, and the importance of giving back. Her journey, from a vulnerable 18-year-old student to a confident businesswoman and mentor, embodies Rafiki’s mission in action.

Adding to the excitement, Miss Universe Zimbabwe 2025, Lyshanda Moyos, graced the event as a special guest. She shared powerful words encouraging the young women to dream boldly, pursue their goals with determination, and remember that their circumstances do not define their futures.

With another event planned in the coming months, we aim to continue sharing success stories to inspire each new generation of young women.

We are deeply grateful to the GlobalGiving community and all our supporters for making these transformative journeys possible. Your support gives hope, builds futures, and reminds every young woman at Rafiki that she is capable, valuable, and unstoppable.
