250+ STEM Role Models Inspire 700+ Girls from Luxembourg to Cincinnati

What are our events like you may wonder?

From discussing the future of girls and women in STEM with Leymah Gbowee, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate of 2011 at the Arch Summit conference – to extracting human DNA with the Princess of Luxembourg Tessy de Nassau at Vodafone – to creating hands-on magnetic slime with chemistry expert Dr. Eliot Gomez at the University of Cincinnati in the US – to even learning the secrets of environmental engineering with Dr. Jenna Mendell in Bridgewater, Massachusetts – and so much more. These moments of inspiration where the girls meet the people who are making a difference in their community -- these are the moments that make our events so special.

We’re lucky to have the opportunity to engage and encounter such innovative and forward-looking role models in each community, and these few months have been packed with connecting over 700 girls to over 250 role model mentors.

Just this week, we held the second g4g@work in Luxembourg working with Vodafone and the Ministry of Education to welcome 150 girls across two days of hands-on STEM activities such as programming robots, creating 5G Towers, coding, and more. Princess Tessy de Nassau and g4g Founder, Melissa Rancourt, both highlighted the need for women to support each other, be kind to one another, and remember that they are worthy and capable exactly as they are, right this moment. At the end of the day, one girl wrote to us and summarised the sentiment beautifully: "[g4g] is so much fun, encouraging, and overall, a great experience!! Girls are amazing! We're ALL worth it."

And from Luxembourg to Cincinnati! Here's a few more special moments we are excited to share with you.

On May 6th 2019, we landed in the USA for our third g4g Day @Cincinnati with Procter & Gamble and the Greater STEM Cincinnati Collaborative. More than 300 girls discovered all the chemistry behind ice-cream, felt an actual brain to learn about neurons, anatomy and behavior, created their own personal Pantene Gold Series and much more with over 130 role models leading the way.

On April 6th, we launched our 4th g4g Day @BSU in Bridgewater, Massachusetts with 150 girls and 40+ volunteers across different STEM-related workshops from learning about organs to learning the ropes of environmental engineering, and everything in-between!

We also joined this year’s Arch Summit at the beginning of April where our lovely Communications Manager, Marie, packed her bag, the g4g roll-up banner, a few daisies and headed to Luxembourg to explore the world of connection and communication through technology and start-ups. After a thrilling pitch presenting g4g, and in-between teaching all the chemistry of bath bombs, she had the great opportunity to meet Leymah Gbowee, where they discussed about the importance of education for girls and started to think about g4g events in Liberia. We can't wait!

On April 3rd, we had our second g4g @work in Croydon with AIG where we invited 30 girls aged 11-15 to explore VR (and vertigo at the same time while walking along the edge of the building), become true codebreakers, learn about the speed of light using chocolate, and experience forces and design-thinking using bicarbonate chemistry engineering.

And what’s ahead for us?

May 25th marks the return of our makerspaces in our beautiful atelier in Brussels for a morning of discovery with lights, colors and reflections. We will break apart light, discover prisms, hidden colors and combine it with physical science, colors explosions, engineering, mathematics, while applying problem solving, creative and design skills.

And then we look ahead to events in Italy, Connecticut, India, and Australia!

All of these brilliant opportunities to inspire girls in STEM with role models around the world is made possible by you, and we thank you so much for this. We wouldn’t be where we are without you!
