Project Achievements (September - October)

By Lina Perez | Executive Director

It has been one month since our Project was approved in GlobalGiving, thanks to the support of 66 individual donors we were able to collect 6.345 dollars!!!, so far the main achievements in Superarse´s playgrounds are:

  • We developed an artistic workshop to create and handle puppets; the creativity and development of motor skills were the main purposes of the activity. Creativity can act as a means to transform the way reality is perceived and enable development of the ability to cope with suffering and pain.
  • 7 music workshops were conducted with the aim of enhancing musical skills. Art activities are characterized by the presence of analogical thought that is transformed in creativity, an essential component of resilience (Smolucha and Smolucha, 1983). Art offers an opportunity to increase empowerment, motivation, self-esteem, sense of belonging, sense of personal power, communication, collaboration and initiative; finally, art provides a chance for the individual to be valued for personal capabilities and strengths, and to develop social relationships and a positive attitude towards life (Cumming and Visser, 2009).
  • The sense of belonging has increased allowing the children to feel the space as their own and to follow the rules and understand the importance of a good behavior during their time in the playground
  • We equipped an interactive room within the playground with 7 computers to offer the children the possibility to explore and play with pedagogical accompaniment
  • We are developing a purpose to create different interest units (Music, technology, motor skills, literature, among others) taking into account the different abilities and motivations of the children

Thanks to your support, 418 children had the possibility to play and create in Superarse´s playground. These are all significant contributions regarding resilience because they can build an important protective layer that helps children to make sense of their reality and be active agents of change in their lives.

Once again, Thank you!!!
