Restoring Dignity to the Elderly in Goma

1. Introduction

In the city of Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, vulnerable elderly individuals are often left to fend for themselves. Victims of family abandonment, social stigma, and even accusations of witchcraft, they live in extreme poverty. The "Give Hope to 70 Vulnerable Elderly in DR Congo" project, in partnership with GlobalGiving, was created to bring them hope, support, and dignity.

2. Project Objectives

  • Provide direct financial aid to 70 vulnerable elderly individuals.
  • Cover essential needs such as medicine, food, and emotional support.
  • Create a safe space that fosters social connection and community inclusion.
  • Raise community awareness about the rights and dignity of the elderly.

3. Background and Rationale

In Goma, many elderly people live in isolation and poverty. Without family or social support, they lack access to medical care, nutrition, and emotional assistance. This project addresses an urgent humanitarian need by targeting a group often neglected by public policies.

4. Planned Activities

  • Monthly financial assistance to meet immediate needs (food, health care).
  • Community gatherings and support groups to reduce isolation.
  • Local awareness campaigns on the rights and value of elderly people.
  • Regular follow-up to assess progress and adjust activities as needed.
  • 70 elderly individuals will receive vital support to live with dignity.
  • Significant reduction in malnutrition, untreated illnesses, and social isolation.
  • Improved social perception and treatment of the elderly within the community.
  • A sustainable foundation for future elder-care initiatives.
  • Total required: USD 7,540
  • Already raised: USD 80
  • Remaining to raise: USD 7,460

5. Expected Impact6. Overall Budget

This budget will cover essential expenses such as direct assistance, field staff, logistics, and community outreach activities.

7. Strategic Partnership

Thanks to our partnership with GlobalGiving, we benefit from a reliable and transparent platform that allows donors worldwide to follow the project’s progress. This collaboration strengthens our visibility, credibility, and capacity to achieve our goals.

8. Call for Support

We invite you to join us in making a real difference in the lives of these 70 forgotten elderly individuals. Every donation, no matter how small, helps restore their dignity and humanity. Together, with GlobalGiving, we can build a more compassionate society where the elderly are respected, protected, and loved.
