Since 2017, we've placed 96 pulse oximetry machines at over 35 hospitals across the UK meaning 144,000 babies will be tested every year on Tiny Tickers funded machines.
We won't stop until we've reached every maternity unit in the UK, because we know that this simple test helps save lives.
We aim to reach all maternity units by 2021 and estimate the total of machines needed is 330. And our project has received support from many health professionals including the UK’s leading authority on Pulse Oximetry Professor Andrew Ewer, University of Birmingham:
“I am delighted to support Tiny Tickers pulse oximetry campaign. Pulse oximetry screening before discharge from hospital is quick, simple and painless and identifies newborn babies with critical life-threatening heart defects and other potentially serious conditions before they become seriously unwell.
Such screening is routine in an increasing number of countries and in the USA it has recently been shown to reduce deaths in babies from critical heart defects by one third. In the UK less than half of all babies born are currently being screened and this campaign by Tiny Tickers will mean that more babies will be offered this potentially life-saving test.’
We’d like to thank everyone that has made this happen. We couldn’t do what we do for heart babies without your support.
