Large Family Invests in Their Future

By Saba | Beneficiary

I am a widow and taking care of 11 children. I have 6 children of my own and the others are from my brother who died of AIDS. He left 5 children behind, two boys and three girls.  It is a lot of work and many duties for me to feed all of them because there are too many in the house.

When I was selected by AFCA, I was given seeds for gardening, as well as three female goats and one male goat.  I was also given gardening tools and two days of training in gardening and animal husbandry. From 2019 to 2023, God blessed me and I harvested well. I sold some of my products and bought a couple of guinea pigs which are multiplying well. With the sale of those, I purchased ducks and chickens. I also saved some seeds for next season and this has always been a great way for our family to save and invest in our future.

Also, I had the chance to buy my own land and built a house. I first built one with a thatch roof, but now, I am dreaming of changing the thatch roof to sheet metal!

Thank you so much for your support to help me and the big family I have. It was so difficult for me for many years, but now, there is no more malnutrition and children are healthy. They drink clean water with the filter and we are buying another solar lamp with our income. You have changed our lives!

Everyone here at the American Foundation for Children with AIDS, and our partners in Africa, thank you for your continued support of this important project.  If you would like to learn even more about this project and others, please contact Tanya Weaver at tweaver@AFCAids.org.
