Our cat charity project Cats of Gili currently has 10 rescued goats. When the goats came to us, they all were very sick, malnourished and weak. It's been a wild ride with them, but all goats are now doing much better... and some might be pregnant, so there is more goats on the way. Our goats, and other animals, are helping several restaurants with their vegetarian kitchen waste, so they are a group of environmental warriors too!
For us, looking after 10 very demanding goats is a lot of work. Although our goats get buckets of vegetarian kitchen waste from several restaurants, they also need other foods. We need to hire someone to go collect fresh food daily, and we need to buy grass and other foods for them. For bigger picture, there are goats everywhere in Gili islands. Mostly they roam free and are not looked after much. We hope to be an example on how to properly look after goats and keep them healthy.
We have successfully taken care of sick goats before, and we already have local people occasionally come to us for help when their goats have been sick. We hope to gain more experience on dealing with sick goats, and we hope to show everyone how to raise happy and healthy goats. Our goats are also important environmental warriors, helping several restaurants and resorts to deal with their vegetarian kitchen waste. And of course, we want to show people how goats make amazing, entertaining pets.
We hope our goats will be good examples on happy, healthy pet goats. We hope their food waste handling services will be recognized as a great way to deal with vegetarian kitchen waste.
