Project Report | Aug 11, 2022
Back in the flow of things

By Jonathan Hannay | Project Leader

It is a great pleasure to be able to share with you, our supporters, the latest news from the project in Brazil. Although there is still a fair amount of disruption in schools caused by Covid 19, the young people have managed to deliver 764 sessions to the children aged between 4 and 10 in all of our partner schools. It has also been very gratifying to have the recognition from our local education department this year and to hear that in an ideal world, they would like for us to be working in all 48 of the schools for this age group in the municipality. Through a new arrangement with them, we have managed to expand the number of teenagers working on the project to 20 and to be regularly working with 9 different schools in our region.

Now I would like to share how some of the young people see the impact of their work on the children:  "It is very gratifying to see the joy of children after carrying out an activity, or hearing the story in a book. They are very spontaneous, and often react positively to activities"- Giovanna and "From the Reading in Schools Project, we can observe a great development in children, especially after the covid-19 pandemic that worsened the difficulty in school learning. Reading is a very important area to be developed, especially in childhood where we learn things more easily. The books and stories that we bring to the children are essential for them to learn new things and develop better reading and interpretation." - Ana Carolina.

The opportunity for teenagers aged between 14 and 17 to deliver such important work also has a great impact on their lives as we can see from the following statements: "ACER Brasil has a wide variety of activities in which they collaborate deeply in the personal development of each child served, and also of each teenager who, like me, participate in the project" – Adrielly. "I've always been a very shy person, because of that I've always had a lot of difficulty getting along with people, after I started to be part of the Reading in Schools Project, because of the contact with the children I improved in several aspects, not just the way I express myself, but as a whole" - Kayky.

We thank you for your continued support for our project and look forward to sharing more good news later in the year.
