We are very much accustomed to hearing from adults and experts about our projects and the impact that they have on children but this time we would like to bring you the voices of the children and how they see the project. In the photographs accompanying the report, you can see a story telling session for seven year olds which takes place in our arts room. This is so because after every story, the children get to do some art which they can take home and use to tell their parents all about the story they heard that day.
In addition to us delivering sessions at schools, we also have classes of local children coming to the ACER community centre as an extension to their school day and here are some of the things the children from the Formiga (Ant) class had to say (names have been changed to preserve their privacy):
"I love coming to reading mediation and do all the activities the give us. Here at ACER they teach us about African and Indigenous peoples and I think it is really interesting to learn about this. I also really like coming to play the drums, it is a training because I want to do this when I grow up." Felipe. “I love coming to ACER, it is really cool here and in the reading mediation they give us lots of activities and I am really advanced! When I come here, I like to play the drums, draw in the arts room and read books.“ Maria. “At ACER I have percussion classes, I like to play with my friends, do reading and painting, I really love it! This reading mediation project is really cool and teaches me lots of interesting things.” João. “I really love reading mediation, they tell lots of fun stories. I also like play drums, its my favorite part and I also like to take part in all the games they teach us here at ACER.” Vitória. “I love everything here at ACER, percussion, arts, reading stories. This reading project is really cool, they tell us many stories and we draw and do many other activities for reading mediation.” Samantha. “My favorite thing to do at ACER is to go to the arts room where they tell stories and we draw and do various other activities.” Joana.
We really appreciate your ongoing support and hope that you have enjoyed this latest report.
