Hello Israel Aquarium Supporters!
We’re having a rainy spring here in Jerusalem – perfect weather for an Aquarium visit!
A few months ago, we received some exciting new additions to the Aquarium who have now been placed in their new home – the pelagic exhibit. Two green sea turtles arrived from the Sea Turtle Rescue Center in Michmoret on Israel’s Mediterranean coast. The two turtles came to the Rescue Center for treatment, having been found injured by plastic waste that almost killed them. The two turtles (each separately) formed necrosis in the right frontal limb which needed to be amputated to save their lives. Obviously, after their life-saving surgery, the turtles remained disabled and would not have been able to survive again in the wild. The Rescue Center asked us to give them a home which we were more than happy to do – they joined their new exhibit mates, the pelagic rays and various fish species in a spacious tank in the Mediterranean section of the Aquarium. In the future, once they reach adulthood, they will be returned to the breeding group at the Rescue Center in the hope that they will produce offspring that can be reintroduced into the wild as part of a local conservation program.

We continue to complete the Aquarium visitor experience and animal collection for which your continued support which is so very much appreciated!
