In 2022, Urban Harvest made progress toward supporting more well-established, long-lasting community spaces across Houston, with a specific focus on those serving socially vulnerable neighborhoods, further ensuring the development of productive green space and access to fresh, healthy foods for many years to come. As a result, we served a total of 50,027 unique individuals across our core programs – Community Gardens, Farmers Markets, Education, and Food Access -including almost 40,000 farmers market patrons and small food businesses, farmers, and ranchers through our Farmers Market Program; we provided gardening education and resources to 4,404 school students - 90% of these schools located in socially vulnerable areas- 207 schoolteachers and over 1,000 individuals from all ages and backgrounds through our Education Program; 2,031 community gardeners that together, protect 15.6 acres of urban productive greenspaces through our network of 190+ affiliated gardens; and 1,656 individuals located in underserved neighborhoods across our city through our Mobile Farmers Market and nutrition incentive program for SNAP recipients, Double Up Houston.
