Dear friends,
Hello, my name is Ruvi. I hope you are well. As the year is coming to an end it's time for an update on our project in Ioannina; Habibi and Sport with Refugees (HSR). First and foremost I am writing to you to express our gratitude for those who have supported and believed in us this year
The amazing news is that we have had a stable team from the community in the past few months. Our team consists of 5 community volunteers, of which 3 female and 5 coaches, of which 2 female. With this amazing team we have worked on community building by organizing many events for the community.
There have been a lot of new people arriving in the camp since September. This made the gym and volleyball field very busy! Furthermore we found a passionate new climbing coach who is willing to learn a lot. He is supported by our climbing volunteers who are experienced climbers and teach him the skills he needs to be a great coach. The team of Habibi and Sport joined the Ioannina lake run in September together with thousands of runners, which was a great team building experience.
The highlight was definitely the Let’s Keep the Ball Flying coaching certification week where we welcomed coaches from Athens, Ioannina and Lesvos to learn the basics of coaching and volleyball. It was a week of learning and sharing wonderful experiences where in the end they all got certified as (volleyball) coaches.
We celebrated Habibis birthday and a week later it was Yoga and Sport's 7th birthday . For Habibi’s birthday we held a women's dance party and organized a ping pong tournament. For YSR’s birthday we organized several different sports tournaments with music all day long. We competed twice with the local Greek volleyball team. We also watched some of the local matches and enjoyed the free entry they provided us. Lastly we did an amazing team trip to the caves of Ioannina . Overall it was an amazing year for HSR.
A big thank you to the amazing people who donated to our project, your donation means the world to us.
Thank you for reading this report. See you next time with more sports news from YSR!
