Project Report | Sep 7, 2023
Remaining hopeful for better days.

By Dr. Heather P. Hall | Director - International Development

The struggles of Haiti’s people continue, and basics such as food, water, and critical health care are scarce in the communities where Sonje Ayiti works.

The residents of North and North-Eastern communities including Limonade, Bahon, Quartier-Morin, Cap-Haitien, Milot, Grande-Riviere du Nord, Acul du Nord, Plaine du Nord, Terrier-Rouge, Trou du Nord, and Caracol face daily survival challenges. Social unrest, food insecurity, lack of clean water, fuel shortages, unsanitary living conditions, lack of proper health care, and the resurgence of Cholera have further compounded the already desperate public health situation in their communities.

Although Sonje Ayiti has implemented programs to assist residents in the affected areas, sadly, these activities cannot continue without funding, and progress has been slow or halted in certain situations.

However, in efforts to help the residents to help themselves, Sonje Ayiti has several projects in business development such as manufacturing jewelry, crafts, and household cleaning products, sewing, cooking, and cosmetology. The participants then use the money earned from sales to provide essential goods and care for their families.

Furthermore, students in the CIMA school of Hope now have a vocational program to gain proficiency in trades with a hands-on approach that will equip them with practical skills for employment by their 8th grade graduation.

We remain hopeful for better days. Thank you for your continued support.
