Greetings to all,
In July we hosted a vivaious group of 21 people from the disaster hit northern part of Naitasiri province. They came in the back of a big ''Lorrie'', or covered truck, from a devastated inland mountainous area, where they had suffered from extreme winds and torrential floods of the rivers and streams where they live. With so much devastation and loss, many still live in tents.
In addition to the Happy Chicken training the participants also focused on information and technologies related to building more resistant agrculture-based livelihoods, such as using tree crops and improved interplanting methods. When it was revealed that wild cacao trees are so prevalent in their area, we devoted some time to teach the participants how to process raw cacao fruits into wondeful dark chocolate- it was very exciting revelation to them all, and they are eager to begin using this important resouce in their future development.
The communty took back with them new skills, and it was appraent from the numerous tearful expressions and farewell speaches, that the time away from home had given both perspective and fresh hope for a better day for their future.
Thank you so much for enabling this work to happen..... Touching lives and giving hope, empowering pure-hearted village people to help themselves and to build a better life through hard work and a more clear understanding of how to better use available resources.
Loving greetings to you all,
Austin
