Healing Base Camp brings Ukrainian veterans and their families to Austria for a week of healing through a combination of mountain climbing & targeted therapeutic work. We focus on mental health and family resiliency. Families create a supportive community where their strengths and hope are fostered by pushing through perceived mental boundaries. The families go from merely surviving to creating a meaningful life worth living. We work on healing for the entire family instead of just the soldier.
Ukrainian families have been irrevocably changed by war. Children have lost parents, fathers and mothers come home with a life changing injury, families are displaced, and they are living in a constant state of uncertainty and anxiety. The psychological and physical effects of this war will last beyond a generation.
At our camp, families are exposed to physical & mental challenges that help them recognize their strengths, grow resilience, & find hope. We provide mental health support in a nontraditional setting, where our experienced therapists enable families with a resiliency toolkit & skills they can use when they return home. Our professional mountaineers guide participants into fearful situations with the certainty of safety, allowing for significant emotional growth in a short period of time.
Improving mental health and well-being for families of war who are prone to a variety of mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. These traumas can be passed down for generations, leading to years of psychological effects on families. We also build longterm networks of support among families with shared experiences; encourage physical outlets for processing stress and anxiety; and provide every day skills that can shift the outlook on life.
