The need for HIV prevention efforts and provision of education and health care services to families living with HIV continue to be huge. Power of Love's, pediatric HIV care program which provides a suite of services to children living with HIV, fills this important need. The goals of this program are:
The program activities listed above will ensure that the current generation has an undetectable level of HIV infection so that they cannot transmit the HIV virus, the new generation is HIV free, and that living with HIV does not disrupt children's education.
With your support, all but two of the 500 children enrolled in this program have undetectable viral loads, 95% of school age chidlren are in school and 100% of newborn children with HIV+ moms are HIV free. In addition, 282 children received funds for school expenses this year, 30 family members of new children enrolled received training in basic nursing and hygiene. In addition, all families receive long lasting insecticide treated nets, education on disease prevention, and counseling. As a result, most children are stable or improving in health, are well-adjusted to their HIV positive status and are attending school. Over the last 12 months, our focus has been to encourage all families to get vaccinated against COVID and learn about disease prevention. These program activities have resulted in families being more self-reliant in taking care of their health.
Thank you for giving the gift of health to vulnerable children in Zambia
