In Karu, 2000 widows and orphaned children face a health crisis without any insurance.Medical costs force impossible choices between food and medicine. Recent local data shows 78% of these families forgo needed clinic visits due to cost, leading to untreated illnesses. An outbreak of seasonal malaria now threatens this vulnerable group. Providing health insurance is urgent to prevent needless suffering and save lives. This project secures one year of full health coverage for all 2000 individuals.
Widows and orphans in Karu live with no financial safety net for sickness. A simple infection can become a death sentence because clinic fees are unaffordable. These families sell their last assets or remove children from school to pay for medical bills. The fear of debt and disease is constant, trapping them in a cycle of poverty and poor health with no support.
This project will purchase group health insurance policies for all 2000 registered widows and orphans. The insurance grants access to a network of local clinics and hospitals for one year. It covers treatments, medications, and hospitalizations. We will distribute insurance cards and guide each family on how to use them, removing the cost barrier to healthcare immediately.
Stable health allows children to stay in school and adults to work or care for their families. Preventing medical debt helps families keep their small incomes and assets. Healthy families can participate more in their community and plan for a future beyond crisis. This intervention builds a foundation for greater stability and opportunity for the next generation.
