For those who do not know, Fundación Nativo works in areas of difficult access where both illegal mining and the Colombian guerrilla are usually present. Usually, this is not a problem for us because when carrying out health missions in indigenous communities, neither the miners nor the guerrillas see us as a real threat to them.
For this reason, and after the situation of the previous floods in Venezuela was under control (that was the reason that made us delay the health mission the last time), we were preparing to carry out a health mission with specialists in gynecology and odontology.
But, unfortunately once again, we have seen our work hindered because the army decided to locate and bomb many of the illegal mining and guerrilla enclaves that are found along the Orinoco River.
Once again, we had to suspend our activities in the area until the army allowed us to pass to the Manapiare Municipality, which is where we plan to hold the health sessions.
Finally, we have already been able to access the area and we are beginning the organization of the health mission that we hope to carry out during the next month of February 2024, already with the support of the Venezuelan air forces for the transfer of medical personnel and the medicines necessary to treat the diagnosed diseases.
