C2C is excited to share updates on our child health services from the past few months! We’re so thankful to our GlobalGiving community who make it possible for us to offer high quality care to families in Haiti, from pediatric vaccinations to nutrition support.
Our community health and clinical teams have been hard at working providing education to families on ways to keep their children healthy, including promotion of early initiation of breastfeeding and exclusive breast feeding, vitamin A supplementation and deworming with albendazole, and vaccination for all children under 2 years of age, including preventive and follow-up phone calls to ensure continuity of care. Our staff are committed to improving this continuity. We conduct surveillance activities, such as weighing and screening children for malnutrition and regularly checking vaccination records to prevent loss to follow up, to ensure all children in C2C communities get the healthy start to life that they deserve.
Thanks to the support of our amazing GlobalGiving community members like you, we’ve achieved the following results in last quarter:
Of course, our work is most effective when we collaborate with our community partners. In Roche Plate, we worked with CARITAS on community-based malnutrition management, accompanying them during their schedule community outreach, screening every child and referring the those with malnutrition to our clinic. We also conducted training on administration of Vitamin A and albendazole with our long-time partner, Vitamin Angels and community-based management of malnutrition during home visits, which entail weight monitoring and provision of Medika Mamba, a ready-to-use therapeutic food provided by another long-time partner, Meds & Foods for Kids (MFK).
Other trainings and special activities included mass reach campaigns which we call “Reach Every District,” or “RED” Campaigns to catch up zero-dose and under-immunized children with their necessary immunizations, and the Expanded Program on Immunization training, to refresh our staff on current immunization standards. In three of our communities, Roche Plate, Camp-Coq, and Bas la Coupe, we held nutrition clubs for families whose children have graduated from our malnutrition program, where we provided them with education on how to maintain their children’s health through proper nutrition and distributed food kits to get them started.
Though we have faced ongoing challenges, such as stockouts of antigens who have prevented complete administration of certain vaccines, a growing demand from community members for our services, and logistical difficulties due to lack of cold chain equipment and refrigeration and transport issues, we remain committed to overcoming any obstacles that may arise – thanks to the generosity of C2C supporters like you!
Thank you again for joining C2C in our mission to safeguard the health and wellbeing of children in Haiti.
