1. Project Background

The province of North Kivu, in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, is facing a severe humanitarian crisis due to years of armed conflict. Over 600,000 people have been displaced and now live in precarious conditions. Displaced women and girls are particularly vulnerable, with little to no access to safe menstrual hygiene products or proper education on menstrual health.

 2. Project Objective

The “Help 100 Displaced Girls Access Menstrual Care” project aims to:

  • Provide reusable menstrual hygiene kits to 100 displaced girls.
  • Educate and raise awareness about menstrual health and break the related taboos.
  • Offer vocational training in the production of sanitary pads.
  • Establish a cooperative to promote economic empowerment and sustainability.

3. Planned Activities

  • Distribution of reusable menstrual hygiene kits.
  • Monthly awareness sessions on menstrual health and safe hygiene practices.
  • Workshops and training in the local production of sanitary pads.
  • Creation of a local cooperative to ensure ongoing production and sale of affordable products.

4. Expected Impact

  • 100 displaced girls gain access to sustainable menstrual hygiene solutions.
  • Decreased risk of infections caused by unsafe alternatives.
  • Boosted self-confidence and dignity among young girls.
  • Access to a sustainable income source through local production.
  • Reduced reliance on external humanitarian aid.

5. Partnership with GlobalGiving

Thanks to our collaboration with GlobalGiving, we now have access to a trusted international platform that helps us mobilize the resources we need. This partnership offers us global visibility and a better chance to meet our funding goal.
So far, we have raised $120 USD, but we are confident that with the continued support of generous donors through GlobalGiving, we will reach our target of $10,000 USD to fully implement this vital project.

6. Project Budget Overview

  • Total Needed: $10,000 USD
  • Raised So Far: $120 USD
  • Remaining Needed: $9,880 USD

This budget will cover materials, hygiene kit production, training sessions, logistics, and the setup of the cooperative.
