Together for the Menstrual Dignity of Displaced Girls

Progress Report – August 2025

Project: Help 100 Displaced Girls Access Menstrual Care
Location: North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo
Total Estimated Budget: $10,000
Funds Raised So Far: $125
Project Launch Date: November 2025

Project Background

North Kivu, in eastern DR Congo, has endured years of armed conflict, resulting in the displacement of over 600,000 people. Among them, women and adolescent girls are the most affected, living in precarious conditions without access to basic menstrual health resources.

In the camps, girls face severe menstrual health challenges: lack of sanitary products, unsafe facilities, and social stigma around menstruation. Many are forced to use unsafe alternatives such as dirty cloth, paper, or leaves—leading to increased risks of infection and undermining their dignity.

Project Objective

This initiative aims to support 100 displaced girls by providing:

  • Reusable menstrual hygiene kits that are safe and eco-friendly
  • Monthly educational sessions on menstrual hygiene and sexual health
  • Vocational training in the production of washable sanitary pads
  • Creation of a local cooperative, offering financial independence and sustained access to hygiene supplies

Activities Completed So Far

  • Awareness campaign launched on the GlobalGiving platform, with $125 already raised
  • Ongoing identification of skilled trainers and selected beneficiaries
  • Local partnerships being established with grassroots women’s organizations
  • Logistical planning in progress to ensure a smooth project start in November 2025

Expected Impact

  • Significant improvement in girls’ menstrual health and hygiene practices
  • Reduced health risks from unsafe menstrual alternatives
  • Breaking taboos through education and open dialogue in communities
  • Economic empowerment of girls through training and cooperative work
  • A scalable model for other crisis-affected regions

Summary Budget

  • Training & educational materials
  • Reusable menstrual kits
  • Cooperative setup
  • Project management & logistics
    Total Budget: $10,000
