Supporting the Dignity of Displaced Girls

By VERITE | CORDINATOR

For many years, the North Kivu region in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been affected by prolonged armed conflict. More than 600,000 people have been displaced, with women and young girls forming a large part of this population. Living conditions in the camps remain extremely fragile.

One of the most overlooked challenges is access to safe menstrual hygiene: lack of sanitary pads, inadequate facilities, persistent taboos, and high health risks. Many girls are forced to use unsafe materials, exposing themselves to infections and a loss of dignity.

Project Objective

The “Help 100 Displaced Girls Access Menstrual Care” project aims to provide 100 displaced girls with:

  • reusable menstrual hygiene kits,
  • comprehensive menstrual health education,
  • practical skills to produce and sell menstrual products.

This initiative does more than address an immediate need—it creates long-term pathways to autonomy, economic resilience, and dignity.

Intervention Strategy

The project focuses on three essential actions:

  1. Distribution of reusable kits, ensuring safe and sustainable access to menstrual hygiene.
  2. Monthly awareness sessions, designed to break taboos, share accurate information, and build girls’ confidence in managing their health.
  3. Vocational training, giving beneficiaries the skills to manufacture menstrual products and generate income through a future local cooperative.

Current Progress

To date:

  • The team is identifying trainers and the girls who will participate in the program.
  • Activities are scheduled to officially begin in November 2025.
  • Through the partnership with GlobalGiving, 126 dollars have already been raised.
  • The total project budget is estimated at 10,000 dollars, and we are steadily moving toward this goal.

Expected Impact

Once implemented, the project will:

  • improve girls’ health and safety,
  • strengthen their autonomy and economic capacities,
  • create a sustainable system where menstrual products become accessible for the entire community,
  • restore dignity, confidence, and hope for young girls who are too often forgotten.

Call to Donors

We warmly invite all supporters to join us in this high-impact humanitarian mission.
Every contribution, even the smallest, brings a young girl closer to a safer, more dignified, and more independent future.

Your support can transform lives. Together—with GlobalGiving and the generosity of our donors—we can reach our goal and bring meaningful change to a region in urgent need.

Acknowledgments

We express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has already contributed. Your support is a beacon of hope, and it is already making a real difference. Thank you for standing with the girls of North Kivu in this essential mission.
