Dear Global Givers,
When we initiated this campaign, thousands of girls in India were facing imminent risk of being dropped out of school as schools remained shut due to the pandemic. Reports from the ground showed how girls were facing discrimination while attending online classes as many families with one mobile device would give preference to their sons over their daughters.
According to the Right to Education Forum policy brief released in January 2022, ten million girls in India could drop out of secondary school due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It also further mentions that with 1.6 million girls aged 11 to 14 years currently out of school, the pandemic could disproportionately impact girls further by putting them at risk of early marriage, early pregnancy, poverty, trafficking and
violence.
In April 2022, offline classes resumed after almost two years. Currently, summer vacations are going on. Despite the schools being open, resource-poor girls in India continue to face challenges. For this, we need your continued support to give girls the opportunity to build digital literacy skills during this time so that they have access to online educational materials which will further help them to study.
As you are aware that during the lockdown, millions of children started attending online classes and how this has affected girls’ education amongst poorer communities as many were left behind with little or no access to the classes without digital devices. We strongly believe that digital literacy and access to online educational materials will not only prevent girls to drop out of school but will also give them additional skills to continue with their education.
Out of our target of 100 girls, the first batch of 10 girls are ready to be enrolled however due to lack of funds we have not been able to procure digital devices to give to the girls.
We still have a long way to meet our target of 100 girls and without your support, we will not be able to achieve this. We urge you to continue to lend us your support so that together we can give these girls hope and bring them closer to their dreams of using education to fight poverty and gender parity.
Thank you Global Givers for your commitment and for supporting girls’ education in India.
With deep gratitude,
Team iPartner India
