Help 1,000 Mentally ill Nigerians find a Home

Summary

In Nigeria, thousands of people with mental illness live on the streets without food, shelter, or care. Many face abuse, neglect, and stigma while families are unable to support them. This project will provide housing, meals, counseling, and medical treatment for 1,000 mentally ill Nigerians. With safe shelter and consistent care, they can begin recovery, reduce suffering, and work towards reintegration into their communities.

Challenge

Nigeria has over 20 million people living with mental illness, yet services are scarce. Many end up homeless, wandering the streets without food or care. Families often abandon relatives due to stigma or financial hardship. Without shelter or treatment, people face abuse, neglect, and preventable deaths. Psychiatric hospitals are overcrowded, leaving thousands with no safe place to stay. Homelessness worsens mental illness, trapping people in a cycle of suffering.

Solution

The project will house 1,000 mentally ill Nigerians in safe facilities, providing meals, medical care, and counseling. Residents will receive treatment and support from trained staff and volunteers. The program will also offer skill-building and rehabilitation activities to prepare them for reintegration into society. By creating stable living conditions, the project breaks the cycle of homelessness and untreated illness, giving residents a chance to recover and rebuild their lives.

Long-Term Impact

Safe housing and treatment will reduce deaths, hunger, and suffering among people with mental illness. Residents who recover stability may reconnect with families, gain employment, and live independently. Communities will benefit as fewer people are left homeless and untreated. By showing that shelter and treatment can change lives, the project encourages broader investment in mental health care across Nigeria, creating lasting change for vulnerable populations.
