THP Youth at George Washington Hospital?

Dear Friend,

Ten of our amazing Teen Health Promoter (THP) youth got selected to participate in a clinical internship at George Washington University Hospital! Through our THP program, these youth now have an amazing hands-on internship opportunity that will guide them in their future medical careers. THP Manager Nicole Conner writes about the partnership:

“George Washington University Hospital’s (GW) Department of Emergency Medicine has partnered with Latin American Youth Center to serve as a clinical internship site for the Teen Health Promoters since 2013. In February of this year, selected THP youth attended their first-day orientation at GW where they excitedly received their very own hospital badges.

This clinical internship offers youth the opportunity to shadow nurses and doctors in the emergency medicine department, providing participants a closely supervised clinical experience with a variety of health professions. For many of the Teen Health Promoters, the internship will be their first experience in a clinical setting, providing much-needed exposure to their medical fields of choice. THP staff work to provide opportunities like the GW internship to offer youth of color opportunities to pursue their professional goals in the medical field.

Ruby, a current THP youth, had always known that she had a passion for healthcare. When she found out about the Teen Health Promoters’ internship opportunities, she was ecstatic that she would be working in the hospital with patients—whether that was shadowing doctors or measuring vital signs. Ruby is most interested in helping patients as a Nurse Practitioner. As a leader in THP, Ruby, alongside nine of her peers, were selected for these exclusive internships. I am in no doubt that they will continue to grow, give back to their communities, and make the LAYC family proud!”

Please congratulate Ruby, Jahwill, Ermyas, Enna, Biyeshi, Cindy, Perpetua, Alexis, Elizabeth, and Diamond on their GW hospital internship placements by dedicating your donation to one of our amazing THP youth. Every contribution helps youth like Ruby achieve their dreams.

Thank you so much for your continued support.

Gracias,

Lori
