Update on restaurant training for 150 widows

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear respected donors,

Thank you for your support toward training 150 widows to run small restaurants in Nigeria. While the funds received so far are not yet enough to begin full activities, your contribution helps highlight the urgent struggles these women face and the importance of providing safe income opportunities.

Widows often lose property and income after their husbands die, leaving them unable to pay for food, healthcare, or their children’s school fees. Many have no marketable skills or capital to start a business and are forced to take unsafe work, including sex work, putting themselves at risk of violence, disease, and exploitation. Without intervention, these widows remain trapped in cycles of poverty and dependence, unable to care for their families with dignity.

This project will train 150 widows in cooking, food service, and restaurant management. Each participant will receive a start-up kit with essential cooking equipment, utensils, and initial food stock. The training will focus on practical skills for preparing meals, managing a small eatery, and selling food in local markets. This approach equips widows to start earning a stable income quickly, replacing unsafe work with dignified employment.

Once fully funded, the project will help these widows achieve financial stability, enabling them to provide for their families, pay school fees, access healthcare, and secure a safer future. Over time, their small restaurants can grow into family-run businesses, create jobs for others, and contribute to community development. Skills gained through this program will also be passed on to younger generations, ensuring lasting impact.

We are deeply grateful for your early support. Every donation brings us closer to helping 150 widows regain independence, build sustainable livelihoods, and care for their families safely and with dignity.

Warm regards,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
