At the Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF), we are committed to equipping young Nigerians with the practical skills and knowledge needed to create sustainable livelihoods.
The project “Train 150 Youths in Vocational Skills” was launched to provide hands-on training in areas such as food production, processing, packaging, entrepreneurship, and innovation. By targeting youths in underserved communities, we aim to combat unemployment, promote self-sufficiency, and empower the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Our Samony Food Innovation & Training Hub (FIT-HUB) is central to this initiative. FIT-HUB provides a state-of-the-art space where youth learn modern food production techniques, fortified food preparation, hygiene standards, and business skills, all within a practical, mentorship-driven environment.
Project Activities During This Period
During this reporting period, the project team focused on preparation, planning, and capacity-building, in anticipation of receiving funding to support the training.
Key activities include:
• Designing a comprehensive vocational skills curriculum
• Mapping target youth participants across communities
• Preparing FIT-HUB facilities, equipment, and training materials
• Engaging local partners and mentors to ensure quality instruction
• Planning logistics for materials and resources distribution
At this stage, no donations have yet been received for the project. Despite this, the team has continued to lay the groundwork to ensure a smooth, impactful launch once funds become available.
Challenges
Several challenges are being addressed in preparation for the training:
• Limited funding to acquire materials, equipment, and ingredients for practical training
• Coordination and transportation for participants from remote communities
• Ensuring sufficient staffing and mentorship capacity at FIT-HUB
Despite these challenges, the project team remains committed to delivering high-quality vocational training that empowers youth and builds entrepreneurial capacity.
Looking Ahead: Little by Little Campaign
We are optimistic about upcoming opportunities to secure funding through campaigns such as Little by Little (March 17 – March 20).
Donations during this period, while matching funds remain, will directly enable:
• The training of 150 youths at FIT-HUB in vocational and food innovation skills
• Provision of nutritionally fortified food production training to expand community nutrition impact
• Mentorship and entrepreneurial guidance to help youth start their own small businesses
• Provision of startup kits to ensure participants can apply their skills immediately
Even small contributions can have a major impact, transforming the lives of youth and their communities.
Next Steps
Once funding is received, the project will:
• Commence hands-on vocational training sessions at FIT-HUB
• Distribute materials, ingredients, and starter kits to youth participants
• Conduct mentorship and entrepreneurship sessions to reinforce learning
• Monitor participants’ progress and provide ongoing support
• Expand training modules to include fortified food production, innovation, and packaging
These steps ensure that training not only builds skills but also creates economic opportunities and sustainable livelihoods.
Gratitude to Our Supporters
We extend heartfelt thanks to all donors, supporters, and advocates who believe in empowering Nigeria’s youth.
Although funding has not yet been received, your interest, encouragement, and awareness-raising are vital to sustaining this initiative.
We also thank GlobalGiving for providing a platform that enables transparency, accountability, and impact, helping grassroots initiatives like ours reach youth in underserved communities.
Call to Action
The youth of Nigeria are talented, ambitious, and ready to contribute to society, but many lack access to skills training and mentorship.
By supporting the Train 150 Youths in Vocational Skills project at FIT-HUB, you can help:
• Equip youth with practical vocational and food innovation skills
• Empower participants to start their own small businesses
• Build sustainable livelihoods in underserved communities
• Foster a generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders
Even small donations can transform the lives of youth and strengthen communities, ensuring that opportunities are accessible to those who need them most.
Closing Reflection
The youth we aim to serve are not just learners—they are future entrepreneurs, leaders, and innovators.
With your support, Samony FIT-HUB will provide a safe, inspiring space where they can gain hands-on skills, mentorship, and tools to build prosperous futures.
Together, we can ensure that these 150 youths are equipped to create sustainable livelihoods and positively impact their communities.
With gratitude and hope,
Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF)
