Earth Keepers: Looking Ahead

By Maggie Chilton | Off-Site Program Coordinator

Isaiah (blonde hair) in the mud!

Our summer camps are about halfway through, and we can hardly believe that Earth Keepers is just around the corner! So far, several of our Earth Keeper students have visited us for camp. One camper, Isaiah, expressed hopes of becoming a counselor with us one day!

In addition to our summer camps, we are busy planning for the upcoming Earth Keeper programs. So what’s in store this upcoming school year? We’ll give you a special sneak peek!

This fall, we are looking to update our curriculum with a selection of multi-week projects our students can pick from themselves. One example is storytelling. Humans process emotions through telling stories. This explains why kids will tell us about an event that happened to them over and over again. Retelling the story of an event helps them to understand and process it. As a result, storytelling has become an important part of the culture at Piedmont Wildlife Center. During their multi-week project, kids will be able to develop a story based on events at camp or something they see in nature. They will then have the opportunity to hone their storytelling skills by sharing with the group… and with you!

Which brings me to our next surprise... The final details are in the works to bring Earth Keepers to two additional schools! Thanks to your continued support, we are able to spread our programs to more schools. We are glad to put in the work and provide as many nature education opportunities that we can!

In the hustle and bustle of the hot summer months, it is important to pause and reflect. Why is this significant? Connecting children with nature is important for their mental, physical, and spiritual health. With your assistance, we can help educate future generations to curate themselves and their environment with wisdom and consideration.

Thank you for your generosity in supporting our camp.
