Spring is here!!! Just like the sun hovering over the earth, things are looking brighter. Our Spring Seasonal programs are starting to wind down, but that isn’t stopping the Piedmont Wildlife Center from continuing to have kids getting outdoors and exploring! The children are able to observe the park getting greener by the day as well as being able to enjoy all the flowers that are in bloom!
Just as the flowers are blossoming, so are the campers. For some kids, PWC is their first experience with other kids after doing distance learning for over a year. One of our campers (6 years old) in particular, has loved coming to our afterschool program in the winter, and now comes to PWC everyday after school. At first he was struggling to adjust to the new schedule and expectations, but over the past few weeks, we have watched him metamorph into a social butterfly. Our counselors can see him grow stronger in his understanding of instructions, such as carefully learning how to hold a frog, or climb up our beloved Grandmother Cedar Tree. He is also learning new skills to bring with him to in person school and his new soccer team, such as eating snacks during snack time, packing his own backpack quickly, and using people's names to get their attention. When campers are able to come day after day, our counselors work on long term goals we have with campers to help them be better stewards for the earth and to make meaningful connections with nature.
This beautiful display of nature is also reminding us that Summer Camp is just around the corner. The Preparation and the thought of having campers here in the summer has been so exciting! We can’t wait!!
Though the year has been different with our programs, Children still have had the opportunity to explore, interact with others, and just be themselves. This has been made possible by efforts from our staff, community, and donors like you! We can’t thank you enough!! Our waitlists are still longer than ever and we need your help to fund scholarships, buy equipment, and pay quality staff to help run our programs.
We are so grateful for all the love and support you provide.
Best,
The Piedmont Wildlife Center Team
