Group of Campers United through Clean-up

Happy Summer Solstice! It's officially summer, but the Piedmont Wildlife Center is already halfway through the 3rd week of summer camp. Kids are outdoors and exploring and learning how to stay cool in very very warm weather. Teenagers are learning how to become PWC's future leaders and our CITs (Counselor-In-Training) are experiencing firsthand what it takes to be that great mentor to all of our campers. All of these amazing things are happening and could not have been made possible without the efforts of our staff and gracious donors like you!

A perfect example of these amazing things happening occurred during the first week of summer camp at our Durham location.  The Crow Clan, the oldest group of campers that week, had planned to go to pawpaw creek one day. This location is normally used for bridge building, finding creek critters, having stick boat races, or just having fun splashing away. While exploring, they discovered an old camper-built bridge that had turned into a litter-catching dam. Through the power of teamwork and determination, they made it their mission to take the bridge apart and clean up all the trash. They were even able to do it fast enough that they could still have fun in the water and make sandcastles! That trip sparked a love for adventure for the rest of the week which unified the group.

As our programming is progressively going back to what it was like pre-pandemic, the opportunity for children to explore, interact with others, and just be themselves is still very strong. This has been made possible by efforts from our staff, community, and donors like you! We can’t thank you enough!! Our waitlists are still longer than ever and we need your help to fund scholarships, buy equipment, and pay quality staff to help run our programs.

We are so grateful for all the love and support you provide.

Best,

The Piedmont Wildlife Center Team
