Since the last report, the Child Protection Initiative has continued to expand its reach and strengthen safeguarding systems across schools in North-Central Nigeria. The focus has remained on empowering students, teachers, and community members with practical knowledge to prevent, identify, and respond to cases of child abuse.

Story from the Field
In one of the participating schools, a teacher noticed a change in behavior in a quiet 11-year-old student who had recently begun withdrawing from classmates and showing signs of distress. Because of the training received through the program, the teacher recognized these as possible indicators of emotional abuse. The issue was reported through the school’s newly established child protection channel. With intervention from school authorities and community support structures, the child was referred for appropriate counseling and protection support. Today, the student is gradually reintegrating into school life with improved emotional stability.
