Repeated Unplanned Pregnancies in Nyanya

By Joy Ojochogwu Etubi | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

We sincerely thank the donors who have already supported the Help 5,000 Nyanya Women Use Female Condoms project. Your generosity reflects concern for women facing difficult reproductive health challenges. However, the donations received so far are not sufficient to begin full distribution and training activities. Additional support is still needed.

In Nyanya, a densely populated settlement on the outskirts of Abuja, many women experience repeated unplanned pregnancies. Access to affordable family planning services is limited, and some women cannot afford clinic-based contraception. In many households, husbands refuse to use condoms, leaving women without practical options to prevent pregnancy.

As family sizes grow beyond what income can sustain, households struggle with food shortages, poor health conditions, and limited access to education for children. Women often carry the burden of these challenges while lacking control over reproductive decisions.

This project will provide 5,000 women with free female condoms and practical instruction on correct usage. Trained peer educators will engage women directly within their communities, offering clear information in safe and respectful settings. By introducing female condoms, women gain a prevention method that does not depend on partner cooperation.

Access to protection can help reduce unintended pregnancies and improve family stability. Women who can manage birth spacing are more likely to maintain better health and allocate household resources more effectively. Education provided during the sessions will also encourage open discussion about reproductive health within the community.

While we are grateful for the initial donations, further funding is required before large-scale distribution and training can begin. We kindly invite additional donors to support this effort and help provide women in Nyanya with practical tools to manage their reproductive health.

Sincerely,

Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
Project Leader
