Summary

Many women in Nyanya, a slum area on the outskirts of Abuja, give birth to more children than they can support. Most cannot afford other contraceptives, and many of their husbands refuse to use condoms. This project will provide 5,000 women with female condoms and teach them how to use them correctly. Giving women control over protection will help reduce unplanned pregnancies and ease the pressure on families living in poverty.

Challenge

In Nyanya, many women face repeated unplanned pregnancies due to a lack of access to affordable contraception. Most cannot pay for family planning services, and many husbands refuse to use condoms. As a result, large families struggle with hunger, poor health, and missed education for children. The women are left with no way to protect themselves or plan their families.

Solution

The project will give 5,000 women free female condoms and teach them how to use them safely. Trained peer educators will visit homes to speak directly with women in their communities. This gives them a way to protect themselves without relying on their partners. It is a cost-effective option that puts basic protection in their hands.

Long-Term Impact

Women who can prevent unwanted pregnancies are more likely to stay healthy and manage their families better. Fewer unplanned births will reduce hunger and allow families to use their small income for food, school, or shelter. The training will also help women feel confident to use protection and talk openly about safe sex with other women in their community.
