Road Work in Process on Project Land

We continue to slowly make progress on the necessary improvements to the Jinja land. We are taking the time now to make sure that the needed infrastructure items are in place. This will help things go more smoothly when actual home construction begins. We are still hoping that we will be able to begin home construction later this year.

During April and May workers constructed a dirt access road to the property from the side of the property. This will provide better access than the existing road which is at the bottom of the property and requires a longer walk on foot to reach the property compared to the new road. A lorry truck needs to bring some truckloads of dirt to improve the road dug by the grader. However, this cannot be done until the Uganda Road Authority completes its widening of the main road nearby. This is espected to be done within the next month. In additon, we made progress on securing electircity to the property and should have more news on that in our next report.

We arrived in Uganda in early July and will be meeting with the architect as well as potential builders during that time. We've included two photos of our visit to the property today to see the new graded road access near the top of the hill on the left. Anna, Catherine and Pauline from the women's group were happy for our volunteer, Kirsten, to accompany us.

Later in the afternoon, we visited several of the ladies' existing homes in the slums. Kirsten was quite dismayed to see their living conditions. One woman, Grace, was living in one rented 10 x 10 foot room with her husband and six children.

Please share this email with any friends and family who could get excited about helping with our project to help these women move out of the slums forever!
