Our women beaders are continuing to save up for their home down payment money. The last four months of the year is the time when they receive much of their craft sales monies. In addition, the local architect has been working on the development plans and estimated costs for the project so that we can then approach various potential lenders to see if they might be interested in assisting with this project. This phase is an important phase as it will make sure our project gets off on solid footing and that there are sufficient women who have enough down payment monies saved for when actual home building begins. We are expecting that the first home building phase will happen in mid to late 2015.
While this is going on, the women are planting maize on the property. One crop was harvested in August, and then a second crop of maize was planted. The land is fertile land which means that eventually the home gardens should be productive. They will need to do some rain water catchment to provide occasional supplemental watering if rains do not occur at the needed times.
