Women Continue to Train & Save for Their New Homes

Saving money is never easy whether it's in the U.S. or in Uganda. So, I was anxious to visit our JInja women's group this past February for several weeks along with two volunteers, Christa and Rick, from the U.S.  One of the main purposes of our trip was to be cheerleaders and encouragers of the Jinja women to continue to be diligent and dedicated in saving their money to be able to put towards the down payments on their homes. This is quite important since we hope to begin the first phase of home building later this year, and are continuing to work on development plans for the home building project.

An equally important trip purpose was our continued trainings with the women on English, leadership and business skills, all of which are critical to the success of their small businesses.  It is each woman's own small business that she does in Uganda which will help her to save the needed down payment money, and which will give her the cash flow to qualify for a small home loan from the local bank. These items when combined with our fundraising here on globalgiving to increase the amount of down payment monies will be what determines when home building can begin!

I am happy to report that our Jinja women are continuing to save, and some of them have saved an impressive amount to date when considering that most of them are sole breadwinners supporting their families containing not only their own children, but often an orphan or two as well.

I'll be going back to Uganda in May and will give you an update at that time.  As always, my goal is to assure that donor monies are being expended properly for purposes which are going to have the greatest impact on getting our women out of poverty forever. The home building project is certainly at the top of this list.  Thank you all for your support of this worthy and exciting project!
