The Farm Refuge Team

Summer has started in Morocco everything is dry and water shortages are going to be a problem … but there is no shortage in injured, sick or abandoned animals.

As usual at this time of year we are constantly getting messages about dogs and cats in need of help. Before the summer, several of the communes round about Agadir routinely take action to “clear” the streets of dogs before the arrival of the tourists from other parts of the country. We know the heartbreaking cruelty that lies underneath these words.

This year there is also an unusually high number of road traffic victims being reported to us.

We are helping all that we can, everyday the staff at the refuge are looking at how we can reorganise things to squeeze just another 2 or 3 dogs into our space. Everyday we are worrying how we can pay the vets bills and buy more food. Everyday is another day we have to get through as best we can, doing what we can where we can. But everyday is also a day that we have to say “no, sorry we can’t help”.

This year we have some exciting news. With the help of Tierhilfe Marokko we have acquired a piece of land next to our Farm Refuge. As you may know the Farm Refuge is our founder’s home and over the years, more and more space has been put over to housing dogs, cats and donkeys. We hope now that we can give Michele back some more of her own space, so she can try and relax more and build her strength up. The last few years have been very hard on her physically and we need to try and make sure that she has time and space to recover her health.Visits

We have had quite a few visits over the last few months. Some from old friends who help us by transporting boxes and other goods from abroad and acting as flight/road volunteers for animals adopted abroad. We also welcomed some adopters who came to collect their adopted animals.

In the 3 months we have had about 30 new arrivals, some who have not yet been named and some of whom sadly didn’t survive.

Mr White, RIP died suddenly. We are heartsore at losing this old and dearly loved dog. Our only consolation is that he was loved and happy while here. It is still too hard to write about him so here are some photos

And on a happier note – 18 dogs have left the refuge for a new life abroad

In the past 3 months we have sterilised 147 cats and 48 dogs.

Thank you everyone for reading this far and for your support. We are all in this together, trying to do an amazing thing against all the odds.

These last few months have been very hard, but every animal saved and every time we see a photo of one of our animals living a wonderful life in their new homes makes everything worthwhile.

Change is coming, it is coming slowly but we believe it is coming. Every little thing we do makes a difference. Thank you for being there to help make the change.
