SPREAD DIVERSITY IN CHILDREN'S LEARNING

By Anthony Hulula | Director/Project Leader

The NGAO Foundation extends its heartfelt thanks to all our donors for empowering us to create lasting change in children’s lives. Through your support, we have touched lives, nurtured minds, and transformed futures. We are deeply grateful that you chose to partner with us to help children return to school and gain the skills they need to thrive. In the past quarter, thanks to your contributions, the NGAO Foundation has been able to expand the learning experience for students, focusing on diversified skills that foster both academic and practical expertise in ways that directly link them to local job markets.

Building Skills for Tomorrow’s Job Market

As unemployment continues to challenge our communities, imparting practical skills has proven to be an impactful way to give young people a second chance at a fulfilling life. Twenty-four students are now fully enrolled in a three-year electrical skills program that offers hands-on experience in a trade crucial to the modern workforce. Through your support, these students are gaining practical expertise that will open up opportunities in a growing sector and provide them with a means of sustainable income.

Exploring Modern Agribusiness

As part of our commitment to diversified learning, students have started learning how to grow microgreens within the limited space available in Kangemi. This innovative approach to agribusiness not only enhances food security but also offers an opportunity for income generation. Through visits and interactive sessions, our students have been introduced to modern agribusiness skills that could transform their futures and contribute to community sustainability.

Integrating Play and Academics

At the NGAO Foundation, we recognize that learning goes hand-in-hand with play. During the recent holiday sessions, we incorporated games and recreational activities to foster social skills and enhance learning in areas such as mathematics and science. By engaging students in practical exercises and interactive discussions, we identified and addressed their academic weaknesses in a supportive environment. For younger children, learning through pulses, patterns, and sensory experiences proved particularly effective. Visits to the NGAO Foundation’s small farm, water filtration center, and electrical workshop allowed students to learn through hands-on experiences that resonate deeply.

Launching the NGAO Foundation Alumni Group

To further enrich students’ learning experiences, we are thrilled to announce the launch of the NGAO Foundation Alumni Group. This network of former sponsored students will serve as mentors, sharing their experiences from various fields and inspiring current students to pursue their goals. The alumni’s guidance and support provide a unique, real-world perspective that complements the academic and practical training we offer.

Life Skills for Lifelong Growth

The holiday sessions also included discussions on critical life skills. Topics such as academic goal-setting, drug and substance abuse awareness, decision-making, menstrual hygiene, and adolescent nutrition were presented to deepen students’ understanding and equip them with the knowledge to navigate personal challenges. The sessions fostered active participation, with students engaging in meaningful conversations that encouraged personal growth and motivated them to pursue their dreams.

Conclusion

Through the "Help a Child Get Back to School" project, your support has enabled us to deliver a holistic learning experience that integrates academic knowledge, practical skills, and essential life lessons. The NGAO Foundation remains committed to fostering diverse learning opportunities, enabling students to build resilient, skillful, and informed lives. We are excited about the journey ahead and grateful to all our donors for believing in the transformative power of education and skills training. Together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of children, helping them realize their potential and empowering them to make lasting contributions to their communities.

Thank you for your unwavering support, and we look forward to continued partnership as we help more children return to school and thrive.
