The clinic provides medical care to the community in the immediate vicinity of the campus. The number of deaths in Uganda could be drastically reduced if there were better health care and emergency transport to hospital. Large numbers of people still die from conditions that are treatable such as malaria, pneumonia, infectious diseases, complications of childbirth & severe injuries from accidents. The Ambulance & Clinic upgrade would provide improved health care facilities and & Save lives.
Jjanda Medical Centre (JMC) is the only clinic in the area that is open 24/7. It's busy midwifery unit has 30births per month. Expectant mothers can come with complications and need an emergency Caesarean section. It can take up to 50 minutes to drive to the nearest hospital in a car, in the Ambulance can take 15-20 minutes. Heart-breaking situations occur because there is no Ambulance! We've lost mothers and babies. Other patients with a medical emergency also need ambulance transportation.
The Ambulance will save lives! Getting patients to hospital faster will reduce the number of fatalities, patients suffering and pain, help improve the patients' outcomes and limit the chances of severe and long-term complications. Upgrading JMC will mean that more patients can be treated in a safe environment. A more comfortable waiting room will be used for the family planning/health/welfare classes, immunisations, TB & HIV testing clinics. Improving the clinic will benefit the community.
Our ambulance can minimise the death rate of patients, mothers and babies who may otherwise arrive in hospital too late. It will maximise their chances of survival and reduce the possibilities of them developing complications. Improving patient outcomes not only reduces their suffering and stress but also the medical and social costs involved for themselves and their relatives. Upgrading JMC will provide a higher quality of health care that is conducive of improved health care for the vicinity.
